General Information
MedicAlert Foundation was formed in 1961 and is a charitable non-profit organization. They formed a partnership with the Alzheimer Society of Canada, effectively taking over control of their Wandering Persons Registry. They also have an agreement with Autism Canada and in 2015 expanded to include a partnership with the Bissell Centre which is the largest FASD (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorders) Centre in Canada . Their database currently manages 1.2 million clients. They continue to develop and leverage new partnerships allowing them to service more Canadians by addressing partner needs.
 What is MedicAlert Connect Protect?
It is a program that gives police officers 24 hour access to MedicAlert registered subscriber's photos, identity, past wandering history, and other vital emergency information through their Medic Alert ID. This information will increase the chances that those who go missing are reunited with their loved ones sooner.
 As soon as I send the registration, will the information be immediately available in case police response is required?
 No. The registration form will need to be entered into a database in order to capture all relevant information. Registration forms may take up to two weeks to be fully processed.
 Who has access to the profile?
 MedicAlert provides quick access to critical medical information that can save precious minutes and quite possibly a life. It is a one of a kind service that gives emergency responders and healthcare providers quick and secure 24/7 access to a MedicAlert subscriber's electronic medical profile. MedicAlert assumes the responsibility of each client and collects all the needed information upon registering a client into the program. This information will allow Niagara Regional Police to access photos and medical information, all of which will only be released to Niagara Regional Police and not members of the public. A Good Samaritan can quickly identify the vulnerable person and bring them to safety by calling MedicAlert 24/7 hotline, which will then take the necessary steps to notify emergency contacts. At no time does the good Samaritan receive any personal/medical information about the client.
 Can I update my profile more than every year if there are changes? How do I do that?
 You may update your profile  as frequently as you wish,however, only information that has a significant impact on policing response will be necessary. Some examples include: change of address, school or emergency contact. You do not need to report a change in hair cut or colour, for example - the police are familiar with the changes that can be made, and are more likely to notice height, weight and eye colour.
 Will I be notified when the annual renewal is required?
 Renewals are the responsibility of MedicAlert. Contact will be made with the parent/guardian prior to renewal date to update information.
 How will this registry help if a vulnerable person goes missing?
 Vulnerable persons may go missing or become lost and are exposed to serious danger, even death. This new partnership with MedicAlert will help facilitate a quick response for those who may be found wandering and return them safely home to their loved ones. Having a plan in place and knowing how to protect the individual is essential to caregivers. Police intervention is usually required in most if not all missing/wandering incidents and is critical to finding a lost person.
