On May 29, 2024 at approximately 5:53pm, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara-on-the-Lake) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service attended the area of Church Road and Stewart Road, in the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake for a serious motor vehicle collision. 

Investigation has determined that an 85-year-old male was operating a 2015 Dodge Caravan eastbound on Church Road while a 78-year-old female was operating a 2008 GMC Acadia northbound on Stewart Road.
The male driver of the Dodge Caravan proceeded through the intersection and collided with the Acadia. The impact caused the Dodge Caravan to redirect, and it subsequently landed in a large pond. Tragically, the male driver was recovered and pronounced deceased on scene. 
The driver of the Acadia and the passenger did not sustain any physical injuries. 
All roads have been reopened. 
The investigation remains on going by detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service.
