On Monday, May 27th, 2024, at approximately 1:30am, 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers with the Niagara Regional Police Service responded to an establishment located in the area of St. Paul Street and James Street, in the City of St. Catharines for an unwanted person call.
Investigation revealed a male was threatening female employees and customers. Officers informed the male he was required to leave the premise, which in turn caused the male to be assaultive toward officers without provocation. Officers attempted to gain control of the male however the male continued to fight officers and resisted arrest.
After multiple deployments of the Conductive Energy Weapon, officers eventually were able to place the male under arrest.
The officers suffered minor injuries.
Melville R. JARRETT (59 years old) of St. Catharines, was arrested and charged with the following offences:
- Assault a Peace Officer (2 Counts)
- Resist Arrest
- Fail to Leave Premises when Directed
JARRETT was held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place on May 27, 2024, at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street, in the City of St. Catharines.
