On Wednesday June 26, 2024, at approximately 1:00pm, 2 District (Niagara Falls/Niagara on the Lake) uniform officers responded to a home in the area of Champlain Drive and Parliament Avenue in the City of Niagara Falls over concerns for public safety.

Due to information of weapons within the home, detectives involved members of the Emergency Task Unit (ETU) and K9.

Following the execution of a search warrant, detectives discovered a .22 Caliber Beretta with a loaded magazine and no trigger lock on top of a dresser in the home along with a loaded .22 Caliber magazine near the front entrance of the residence. Further ammunition was also discovered readily available within the home.

58-year-old Michael Paulo of Niagara Falls is facing the following charges:

  • Careless storage of a firearm, contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code

Paulo was being held in custody pending a bail hearing that was expected to take place on June 27, 2024 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse in the City of St. Catharines.
