The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) is pleased to announce the launch of the Citizen Police Academy, aimed at fostering greater understanding and collaboration between law enforcement and the community.
The Citizen Police Academy is being launched, in part, to celebrate Police in Ontario. The 2024 Police Week theme in Ontario is “Join Policing: Keep Ontario Safe”.
The NRPS Citizen Police Academy will provide residents with a unique opportunity to gain insight into the policing profession. Through interactive sessions and firsthand experiences, participants will develop a deeper understanding of the role of modern-day policing in the region.
The academy is not intended to train individuals to become police officers, but rather to provide community members with insight into police services and operations.
Participants in the NRPS Citizen Academy will have the chance to engage with subject matter experts from the NRPS, including high-ranking officers and experienced professional staff. There will be a wide variety of topics over the course of the Citizen’s Police Academy.
The Academy will commence in September of 2024 (exact date to be determined) and run every Wednesday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm for eight weeks, with week nine being a graduation event.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, pass a background security check, and commit to attending all sessions.
The NRPS looks forward to building stronger partnerships with the community through the Citizen Academy and invites interested individuals to apply. For more information and to apply, visit HERE.
