On April 16, 2025, at 5:15 p.m., uniform officers from 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) responded to a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in St. Catharines.

Officers attended the Avondale Convenience Store located at 209 Glenridge Avenue. The initial investigation determined that a lone male entered the store, selected some merchandise, and approached the counter to pay. While at the counter, the suspect pulled a black and blue handgun from his bag, pointed it at the clerk, and demanded the contents of the cash register. He then dumped the cash into a bag he was carrying and fled the store northbound on foot. The store clerk was not physically injured during the robbery.

Uniform officers, along with a NRPS Canine Unit, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.

1 District detectives have been assigned to the investigation and are being assisted by the NRPS Forensic Services Unit.

The suspect (see photos) is described as:

  • White male, 50–60 years old
  • Black hair
  • Thin build, average height
  • Large nose
  • Raspy voice, English-speaking with no accent

Clothing worn:

  • Blue Helly Hansen coat with a hood and grey stripe on the back
  • Black hoodie pulled up
  • Black Under Armour track pants
  • Red and white Canada scarf
  • Blue bowling-style bag
  • Black shoes

The suspect should be considered armed and dangerous as he fled the scene with a handgun. Members of the public who recognize the suspect are urged not to approach him but to immediately contact police.
