On April 17, 2025, at approximately 4:24 p.m., emergency services responded to reports of a serious collision in St. Catharines involving a cyclist and a car.
Uniform officers from the 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) office of the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS), along with Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics and St. Catharines Fire Services personnel, attended the scene on Lakeshore Road near Broadway.
The collision involved a 72-year-old male cyclist from St. Catharines and a 2016 beige Lincoln MKX, which was being operated by a 74-year-old female, also from St. Catharines.
The cyclist was treated at the scene by paramedics and transported to a hospital outside the region for further care of what were initially believed to be life-threatening injuries.
Detectives from the NRPS Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic Services Unit attended the scene to assist with the investigation.
During the course of the investigation, the cyclist’s condition was upgraded to serious but no longer considered life-threatening. He remains in hospital.
Roads in the area were closed for the investigation and reopened at approximately 11:19 p.m.
