On Friday, September 13, 2024 at approximately 12:25 am, a 6 District (Port Colborne/Wainfleet) uniform officer with the Niagara Regional Police Service, was conducting general patrol on Empire Road in the area of Sherkston Shores in the City of Port Colborne when two motorcycles travelled past the officer at a high rate of speed.

When the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the two motorcycles collided with each other.

Niagara Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) paramedics responded alongside members of the Port Colborne Fire & Emergency Services. 

One male driver was transported to an out of region hospital via Air Ornge.  The other male driver has minor injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The Ontario Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified and have invoked their mandate.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have information is asked to contact the Special Investigations Unit at 1 (800) 787-8529.

As the SIU (Special Investigation Unit) has invoked its mandate, the NRPS is prohibited from releasing further details.
