On March 20, 2025, members of 3 District (Welland/Pelham) Street Crime Unit, 3 District uniform officers, 1 District (St.Catharines/Thorold) CIB, in collaboration with Stratford Police Service, Waterloo Police Service, Hamilton Police Service and York Police Service, actively investigated the whereabouts of the suspect resulting in a search warrant being executed at a residence in Markham.  As a result, an arrest was subsequently made.

Diego DINI (21 years) of Markham faces the following criminal charges:

-          Theft Under $5000.00 (x 2 Counts)

DINI attended a bail hearing on Thursday, March 20, 2025, via video link to the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse located at 59 Church Street in the City of St. Catharines and was remanded into custody.

Detectives from the Niagara Regional Police Service are investigating two theft incidents that occurred at jewelry stores in St. Catharines and Welland.

On November 27, 2024, at 5:41pm 1 District (St. Catharines/Thorold) uniform officers responded to Kavar Jewellers located in Pen Centre in St. Catharines. The initial investigation determined that a lone male suspect entered the store and asked to look at jewelry. When the male was given access to the jewelry, he suddenly ran from the store stealing jewelry.

On November 27, 2024, at 6:13pm 3 District (Welland/Pelham) uniform officers responded to Tianna’s Jewelry located in the Seaway Mall in Welland. The investigation determined that a lone male had entered the store asking to look at jewelry. When the male was given access to the jewelry, he ran from the store stealing jewelry.

The same suspect was involved in both incidents.

The suspect (See photos) is described as:

  • Male
  • 18-25 years
  • Clean shaven
  • Long black curly hair

No suspect vehicle as been identified.

The Niagara incidents are believed to have been committed by the same suspect in a similar Stratford Ontario incident on November 26, 2024.  The suspect may be active in other areas of Ontario too.
