1 Male Arrested in Relation to an Incident at Niagara College

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, at approximately 10:13am, 3 District (Welland/Fonthill) uniform officers attended Niagara College located at 100 Niagara College Boulevard in the City of Welland for a weapons call.

Niagara College contacted the Niagara Regional Police Service regarding concerns of a male with a weapon.  Out of an abundance of caution, Quaker Road Public School and Alexander Kuska Catholic Elementary School were advised to hold and secure.

In September of 2024 detectives from the 2 District (Niagara Falls / Niagara on the Lake) Street Crime Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) entered into a firearm in investigation in the City of Niagara Falls.

Counterfeit 'Percocet' Seizure

In August 2024 detectives with the Opioid Enforcement and Education Unit with the Niagara Regional Police Service, seized a quantity of pills that bore the markings and resemblance of “Percocet” (oxycodone and acetaminophen), a potent opioid. Health Canada has completed testing on these pills which revealed they were counterfeit. 

The results indicated that the pills were Benzimidazole (Protonitazene) a synthetic Opioid significantly stronger than Fentanyl. This drug is not prescribed to humans...

SCAM ALERT - Extortion Scam – Update 1 – SCAM SCRIPT

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) continues to investigate an email extortion scam that is happening in Niagara over the last 1-2 weeks. To date there have been at least 10 incidents reported although more attempts are suspected to have occurred. 

To further prevent victimization the NRPS is providing the public with the extortion email. Many of the extortion emails use the same words, the only changes being the victim’s personal information (blacked out redacted areas).

The Niagara Regional Police Service is warning the public about a new scam occurring in the St. Catharines area.

Detectives have discovered that the scam involves an individual pretending to be a customer who exits a vehicle with a taxi or Domino’s roof sign. The scammer then approaches a potential victim, claiming the driver only accepts card payments and not cash. The scammer offers the victim cash in exchange for using their debit card.
